Defending Reality: A Stand for Women’s Rights Against Germany’s Self-ID Law
My speech from today's Global Protest against the German Self-ID law
In Atlanta this afternoon, across from the German Consulate, I was part of a small (but mighty) group of women taking part in the Global Protest against the German Self-ID law. My (short) speech was as follows:
The German Self-ID law that went into effect today brings consequences that compromise the rights, safety, and autonomy of women and girls…prioritizing ideological affirmations over practical protections.
While we stand here today for our German sisters, we are also here for women and girls everywhere. What happens in Germany today could happen anywhere else tomorrow. As a leader in the EU, Germany’s Self-ID law could inspire similar policies in other countries. This ripple effect would further erode women’s rights worldwide, normalizing gender self-identification while ignoring the voices of the women who object.
Today, feminists around the globe are united in advocating for policies that honor, respect, and protect the rights, realities, and boundaries of women and girls.
This law erases women’s sex-based rights and replaces biological reality with ideological compliance. It opens female spaces to invasion by men—and then penalizes anyone who identifies those men as such. It sidelines parental rights, stripping them of the ability to protect their children from irreversible medical harm. It undermines female sports and limits opportunities for women and girls. You can find out more about it here.
