"The question now is whether these women will begin to see that radical feminists were never their enemy at all. We were simply the canaries in the coal mine..."

YES!! I feel terrible for the conservative women (goes for any ideology, really) who believe like-minded men have their best interest in mind, then find out the hard way. Great article!

This is the problem with understanding things along factional lines. I don’t think it really works for women. I don’t think it works at all, but it really doesn’t work for women. As women we need to understand men, women and our relationships to power and violence (actual physical violence). The males of our species, as a whole, not divided into factions that include us. We need to tolerate and accept mentally the concept of total exclusion from the male sex. We need to understand that because no matter what differences different classes or castes of men have, they all have the same use for women. The Tory man and the Whig man get off the same way, their beauty patches have no effect on what’s below.

So conservative men rally in defense of porn, it’s not because of a mistake they’ve made reading scripture or understanding politics or women’s rights or radical feminism or family values but because porn is sexually stimulating for men in general. They defend porn because they’re men.
