“Gender ideology frequently presents itself as an expansion of representation. In practice, it often produces a stranger effect: the categories that once made representation meaningful begin to dissolve. Lesbian dating shows struggle to maintain the boundaries of lesbianism. Milestones achieved by women become linguistically unstable the moment identity labels intervene.”
So true. I would take this a step further. It’s an artifice that relegates the experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and heterosexual people to a lesser or meaningless status. And if you dare protest, you are labeled with the dreaded “transphobe” moniker. The gender expansionists are already trying to rewrite the History of The Stonewall Riots. And because historical accuracy is constantly being tampered with for political purposes, many younger people believe drag queens and not lesbians and gay men are responsible for fighting back at Stonewall. Soon the boundaries will be rendered invisible not just dissolved.
Exactly! In the past decade I've seen the sayings go from "A Black lesbian threw the first brick at Stonewall" to making Storme trans to making Malcolm the one to throw the first brick, to making him trans and ending with "A Black transwoman threw the first brick at Stonewall", the literal opposite.
I just read another Substack about that! They refer to it as the “trans washing” of Stonewall. How they magically turned black lesbians into “trans women”. This stuff drives me crazy. Almost as much as positioning any objections to their sex denialism as “conservatives”.
There are so many women on the left and formerly on the left who have been bullied, threatened and criticized for voicing any objections, it is jarring. The erasure of lesbians (women) by “trans” (men) is something I think will be attempted more and more. But I don’t want to minimize what this ideology is doing to gay men or children who would grow up to be lesbian or gay if left alone. It’s tragic on all fronts. It just seems to impact women, both gay and straight, the most.
Perceptive as always Kristen. 👏👏.
